Supported requirements
What the current source supports
- Hold current nationality of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, or Uruguay. The public procedure does not extend this subcategory to every MERCOSUR associated state.
- Apply from outside Chile through the SERMIG Digital Procedures Portal. A valid passport is required, except that a Bolivian national may use a valid DNI under the bilateral agreement.
- An adult provides a criminal-record certificate from the country of origin or the country of residence during the prior five years, together with the current photograph.
- Use documents within the published validity periods, apostille or legalize foreign documents as applicable, and provide an official translation when the document is not in Spanish or English.
- After grant, follow the current entry and electronic-permit steps; filing and document acceptance do not guarantee approval.
Applicant scope
Who this route generally serves
- Generally designed for
- Current nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, or Uruguay seeking up to two years of temporary residence in Chile under the MERCOSUR reciprocity subcategory.
- Legal basis named by the authority
- Law 21.325 Article 70(13), D.S. 177, the current SERMIG MERCOSUR reciprocity procedure, and the applicable regional or bilateral agreement.
Route lifecycle
What to confirm from application onward
- Financial basis
- The nationality-based route publishes no investment or income threshold.
- Government service fees
- Charges depend on nationality. The current Chile–Bolivia migration agreement removes the application charge for Bolivian nationals; all other applicants should confirm the live nationality-specific schedule.
- Initial status
- Temporary residence for up to two years.
- Renewal
- A holder may request an extension from Chile during the current filing window and must document continuity of the basis. Each extension remains a separate decision.
- Dependents
- A spouse or equivalent partner and qualifying children within Law 21.325 Article 74(1) and (2) may apply as dependents under the separate dependency procedure; approval is not automatic.
- Work rights
- SERMIG expressly permits lawful remunerated activities under this subcategory, subject to labor, professional, licensing, and minor-work rules.
- Presence considerations
- The route does not publish a standalone day-count maintenance test. Absences are evaluated separately for any later definitive-residence application.
- Permanent residence
- A later definitive-residence application is separate and governed by the current residence-history, absence, compliance, and document rules; two years of temporary residence do not produce an automatic conversion.
- Citizenship relationship
- Chilean nationality is a separate process requiring its own definitive-residence and residence-history conditions.
