Supported requirements
What the current source supports
- Document lawful monthly rent of at least three current SBU from an Ecuadorian or foreign source. The official procedure gives leases and investment instruments as examples rather than treating them as an exhaustive list.
- Provide a passport valid for at least six months, the current visa photograph, and health insurance from an Ecuadorian or foreign insurer covering the visa period; a foreign policy must provide coverage in Ecuador.
- Provide the national-level criminal-record evidence and migratory-registration certificate required by the current statutory framework. Foreign public documents must be apostilled or legalized and translated as applicable.
- Apply through the current eVisas channel, provide lawful-means evidence, pay the live application charge, cure any notified deficiency, complete an interview if requested, and pay the grant and cedulation amounts only after approval.
- Each dependent increases the required documented monthly means by USD 250 and must qualify through the separate dependent or amparo process.
Applicant scope
Who this route generally serves
- Generally designed for
- Applicants able to document lawful recurring rent equal to at least three current Unified Basic Salaries (SBU) per month without relying on ordinary local employment.
- Legal basis named by the authority
- Ley Orgánica de Movilidad Humana, as amended; its implementing regulation; the current eVisas digital-services rules; and procedure MREMH-008-10-25.
Route lifecycle
What to confirm from application onward
- Financial basis
- At least three current SBU in lawful monthly rent. The procedure states an additional USD 250 in monthly means for each dependent. SBU is left unconverted because it changes over time.
- Government service fees
- The route procedure lists source-dated application and grant charges, while the current digital-services rules control live eVisas payment operations. Confirm the current amounts and any concession before paying.
- Initial status
- Temporary residence for up to two years with multiple entries, subject to the individual grant.
- Renewal
- The current law permits temporary residence to be renewed on multiple occasions. Renewal is a separate decision and requires the rentier basis and current general requirements to remain satisfied; no route-specific public renewal window or checklist is asserted here.
- Dependents
- The procedure states an additional USD 250 monthly means requirement for each dependent. A qualifying dependent uses the separate amparo category and is not approved automatically with the rentier application.
- Work rights
- This passive-income basis does not establish unrestricted local employment or regulated-profession rights. Any remunerated activity must fit the status and the separately applicable labor or professional rules.
- Presence considerations
- Temporary residence permits multiple entries and exits and is not assigned a route-specific minimum-presence rule here. A later time-based permanent-residence application separately limits total absence during temporary residence to 90 days.
- Permanent residence
- Permanent residence is a separate application after at least 21 months of qualifying continuous temporary residence. Filing must occur before temporary status expires and satisfy the then-current continuity and document rules; conversion is not automatic.
- Citizenship relationship
- Naturalization is a separate legal process and is not established by rentier temporary residence.
