Visa de residencia temporal para profesional, técnico, tecnólogo o artesano
A nationally registered professional, technical, or technological title, or the required Ecuadorian artisan registration and convalidation
Ecuador’s credential-led temporary-residence category is for a professional, technician, technologist, or artisan who can complete the branch-specific Ecuador credential step. Employer sponsorship is not the qualifying basis for this route.

Supported requirements
What the current source supports
- Professional branch: present the corresponding professional title. If it was issued abroad, it must be apostilled or legalized as applicable and registered with Ecuador’s national higher-education authority before the visa filing.
- Technical branch: present the corresponding technical title under the same apostille or legalization and prior national-registration sequence when it was issued abroad.
- Technological branch: present the corresponding technological title under the same apostille or legalization and prior national-registration sequence when it was issued abroad.
- For a foreign non-health, non-PhD higher-education title, the current recognition service checks that the credential is comparable to an Ecuadorian level and that the foreign institution is accredited in its country of origin. Recognition is not automatic, and the immigration sources do not support filing this visa with recognition merely pending.
- Ecuador-issued higher-education titles are entered in the national system by the awarding institution. Health qualifications and doctoral qualifications use separate recognition procedures. Electronic credential documents may be accepted by the recognition service, but a favorable national record is still distinct from the visa decision.
- Artisan branch: present registration of the activity with the competent Ecuadorian entity and convalidation before the Junta Nacional de Defensa del Artesano. Current public national sources do not expose a complete foreign-artisan checklist, fee, processing time, or the exact activity-registration body, so those details must be confirmed directly before filing.
- Provide the current photograph and a passport valid for at least six months, together with the adult criminal-record evidence and any case-specific document requested by the mobility authority.
- The 2025 statutory reform now requires the national-level criminal-record certificate described by the law and a certificate of migratory registration. The procedure last updated 2024-12-31 still displays older criminal-record wording and does not yet specify the new certificate format, so the current eVisas instruction controls the operational upload.
- Translate documents that are not in Spanish and apostille or legalize foreign public documents as the current law, regulation, procedure, and recognition service require for the document involved.
- Apply through the national eVisas portal. Upload the branch and shared evidence, pay the non-refundable application charge, cure a notified incomplete file within the stated ten working days, complete an interview if requested, and pay the grant charge only after approval.
Applicant scope
Who this route generally serves
- Generally designed for
- Foreign applicants who intend to carry out a professional, technical, technological, or artisan activity in Ecuador and already hold the nationally registered title or artisan evidence required for their branch.
- Legal basis named by the authority
- Ley Orgánica de Movilidad Humana, Articles 60, 63–65; its 2025 reform published in Registro Oficial No. 151, Séptimo Suplemento; Reglamento a la Ley Orgánica de Movilidad Humana, including Articles 58–60, 76, 79, and 83–84; Acuerdos Ministeriales 0000070 (2024) and 0000035 (2026); and procedure MREMH-008-10-28.
Route lifecycle
What to confirm from application onward
- Financial basis
- Acuerdo Ministerial 0000070 treats this as a lucrative category. The applicant must use an accepted lawful-means document appropriate to the actual basis and generally show at least one current Ecuadorian unified basic salary (SBU), such as through qualifying employment or service income, bank activity, lawful income or assets, or another listed category. An employer contract is not a universal route requirement. Confirm the current SBU and accepted evidence in eVisas before filing.
- Government service fees
- The national procedure last updated 2024-12-31 lists USD 50 for the application and USD 270 for the visa grant, with the stated age and disability concessions. Acuerdo Ministerial 0000035 requires the first payment by 23:59 Ecuador time on the calendar day the application is submitted. Confirm the live eVisas amount and payment channel before paying.
- Initial status
- Temporary residence for up to two years. After the final payment, the national procedure says eVisas generates the visa and, when applicable, the order of cedulación; that order is a separate step toward the Ecuadorian identity card.
- Renewal
- The current law permits temporary residence to be renewed on multiple occasions. The cited public package does not expose a route-specific renewal checklist or filing window, and renewal is a separate decision rather than a guarantee.
- Dependents
- Children, a spouse, or a legally recognized partner may use the separate temporary-residence amparo category when its relationship rules are met. Their status is tied to the principal visa and is not automatic under this credential application.
- Work rights
- This route is based on the qualifying credential or artisan status, not ordinary employer sponsorship. Immigration approval, foreign-title recognition, national title registration, and authorization to practise a regulated profession are separate decisions. A profession-specific regulator may impose additional licensing or registration; the higher-education title record does not by itself establish unrestricted professional practice.
- Presence considerations
- Temporary residence permits multiple entries and exits, and the cited sources do not establish a route-specific absence cap for maintaining this category. A later time-based permanent-residence application applies a separate continuity rule that limits total absences during temporary residence to 90 days.
- Permanent residence
- Permanent residence is a separate application after at least 21 months of qualifying continuous temporary residence, filed before the current status expires and subject to the applicable absence and other requirements. It is not an automatic conversion.
